Joeys

18 months – 3 years

Toddlerhood is a time of incredible growth where children begin to explore their independence and develop essential social, emotional, and cognitive skills. And they have a lot of energy! Through play-based learning, we nurture each toddler’s unique potential, supporting them as they take their first steps towards becoming confident, capable learners.

  • Cooperative play that encourages sharing, turn-taking, and teamwork.
  • Group activities, such as partner tasks and simple games, teaching them how to relate to others and be part of a community.
  • “All About Me” projects, including self-portraits and family discussions, nurture self-awareness.
  • Inclusive activities that celebrate each child’s uniqueness and culture.
  • Guided support from caring educators helps toddlers recognise and express their feelings.
  • Storytelling, puppets, and role-play create safe, fun ways to explore emotions and build emotional literacy.
  • Safe risk-taking and discovery, from building with blocks to exploring nature, help toddlers learn by doing.
  • Critical thinking as children tackle challenges and experience the joy of problem-solving.
  • Conversations, songs, and storytime support vocabulary growth and confident communication.

  • Literacy and numeracy foundations through fun, age-appropriate activities.
  • Activities that support phonics, speech, emergent writing, and reading.
  • Creative sessions across art, music, dance, and dramatic play.
  • Active play and detailed tasks develop gross and fine motor skills.
  • Group games and cooperative play build friendships and encourage a sense of community.
  • School readiness (developed in consultation with local Pre-Primary teachers) prepares children for a smooth transition to Pre-Primary.
  • Cognitive skills that support early reading, writing, and problem-solving in line with school expectations.
  • Independence and responsibility through self-help skills like dressing, packing bags, caring for belongings.
  • Social exploration to build skills in sharing, teamwork, and empathy.
  • Emotional skill-building promotes resilience, self-love, emotional regulation, and positive relationships.
  • Individualised learning plans tailored to each child’s strengths and interests.

Powerful programs, thoughtfully crafted.

Inspired by great thinkers.

We honour the legacies of pioneers like Maria Montessori, John Bowlby, and Friedrich Froebel. Their ideas on child-led learning, emotional security, and the power of play continue to shape how we view early education. Our educators work collaboratively across diverse learning pedagogies to raise the standard of care and education, ensuring every child is seen, valued, and supported.

Finnish early learning.

We draw inspiration from the world-renowned Finnish early learning model, which emphasises joy, play, and the importance of a balanced childhood. Like Finland, we believe that learning happens best when children feel relaxed, respected, and free to explore at their own pace. Our environment encourages independence and imagination, allowing children to engage deeply with the world around them while building the social and emotional skills they’ll carry for life.

Early Years Learning Framework & the National Quality Framework.

Our approach is deeply rooted in Australia’s Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and guided by the National Quality Framework (NQF). These standards ensure we provide high-quality care that supports children’s sense of belonging, being, and becoming. Through play-based learning, we foster creativity, curiosity, and a love of discovery. The NQF helps us maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment, where every child’s growth is nurtured and every educator is committed to continuous improvement.
